Excursion destinations
Not without reason Marchegg is also called the "Stork Town". The reason for this nickname is the largest tree-breeding white stork colony in Central Europe, which has settled here. The stork house in the centre of town can be reached after a leisurely walk of about 45 minutes - starting from Marchegg railway station - and offers a comprehensive insight into the world of the storks. Right next to it is the impressive Marchegg Castle with its beautiful castle park and the adjacent Marchauen nature reserve, which can also be visited during the guided tours of the Stork House. In the local history museum, which is located at the foot of the castle park, an extensive collection on life and work in Marchegg has been compiled and lovingly presented.
Tip: Numerous fruit and vegetable suppliers offer their products of regional origin in the surrounding area. Like the Michaelerhof, for example, which becomes an excursion destination in itself with the farm tour and the stroll through the fields.
