Gänserndorf

Gänserndorf is located in the fertile Marchfeld region - around 20 kilometers from Vienna. The town is the headquarters of the district of the same name in the Weinviertel. Gänserndorf was first mentioned in documents in 1115 - as "Genstribindorf", or "goose-driving village". The name is said to derive from the fact that large flocks of geese were kept here.

In the meantime, the town has long since developed into an educational and cultural center. Gänserndorf is also an ideal starting point for excursions in the town or into the surrounding area - such as to the Danube wetlands or the historic Marchfeld castles.

Gänserndorf: excursion and vacation tips for the whole family

The Gänserndorf Adventure Park is a mecca for action and relaxation in equal measure: with an adventure playground, climbing course, archery safari, petting zoo and much more. This is also the starting point for the great llama hikes organized by Schlupfwinkel Lamas. Much smaller - and definitely less cuddly - are the precious little animals that the organic beekeeping Blütenstaub is all about.

Sights in Gänserndorf

Gänserndorf is not known as the "town of pillars" for nothing. There are pillar sites throughout the town, which also form gates in pairs. Examples include the Schönkirchen Gate, the Safaripark pillars and the forest of pillars near the elementary school. Also worth seeing is the Piefkedenkmal, a sound sculpture in front of the town library. Gänserndorf also has a Jewish cemetery and a Catholic parish church.
