Strasshof an der Nordbahn
The monument locomotive was erected in November 1978 and renovated and extended with a roof from October 2021 to March 2022. In the past, models of this locomotive (small train) were sold in small packages and so the architect was inspired by such a package for this roof.
Strasshof an der Nordbahn was originally planned and laid out as a Viennese suburb. The former "garden city" on the northern edge of the Marchfeld has long since developed into an active Weinviertel municipality. In 2024, the market town of Strasshof an der Nordbahn was elevated to the status of a town by resolution of the provincial parliament. Strasshof an der Nordbahn has therefore officially been a municipality since June 10, 2024. With its pretty townscape and several sights, it is an idyllic family excursion or vacation not far from the town. With the toboggan hill, the playground at the toboggan hill, the beach volleyball court, a football-soccer pitch and the generation playground, Strasshof offers great leisure opportunities all year round. The Haus der Begegnung 'HdB' in the middle of Strasshof is an important event venue.
Strasshof an der Nordbahn: Excursion destinations for the whole family
The local history museum Kulturhaus Strasshof and the famous railroad museum "Das Heizhaus" are a constant source of amazement and discovery. The listed parish church of St. Anthony is also well worth a visit: it was built between 1923 and 1925 by the Viennese cathedral architect August Kirstein.
Hiking tip: The "proud pine tree" of Strasshof
It was planted over 230 years ago - at the behest of none other than Empress Maria Theresa. Today, the old black pine of Strasshof an der Nordbahn is known as the "Proud Pine". It is also anchored in the municipality's coat of arms. The stately tree has been a nature reserve since 1968. It is also the subject of many a beautiful legend.
