Route description Steam Horse and Bike
The cycling route "Steam Horse and Bike" starts at the old station in Stammersdorf, where you learn something about the local railway history of Stammersdorf. Afterwards, you cycle on to the "Rendezvous Hill" station, which informs you about the remarkable habitat of "ruderal plants." Across the state border of Vienna and Lower Austria, marked by a barrier, you head to Hagenbrunn, where pieces of railway history are cleverly staged in a "railway archaeology."
Then it goes to Großebersdorf and Eibesbrunn, where you have a magnificent view of Vienna and the southern foothills of the Weinviertel. You also learn more about the significance of signals in rail traffic. In Obersdorf is the "time track," which tells about the local railway history. In Pillichsdorf, you can climb onto the "locomotive ride bike" and then enjoy a good glass of wine in the wine cellar alley, which is one of the largest connected wine cellar alleys in Europe. Afterwards, you cycle on to Groß-Engersdorf, with the opportunity to explore the Museum of Village Culture and the wine cellar alley.
Then it continues to Bockfließ, where the Wine Tour with Energy accompanies you for a short distance. But soon you head south to Strasshof an der Nordbahn. In the "Railway Museum Strasshof" you can experience over 100 veterans of the rails up close, and on Sundays and public holidays, you even have the opportunity to ride in the cab of a locomotive. At the end of this tour, you cycle to Deutsch Wagram, where you can explore the Napoleon Museum and the Railway Museum, located on the site where Austria's first train station was built.
Via the Marchfeld Canal Cycle Path, you can cycle back to the starting point in Stammersdorf or reach the starting point by train.
