Markgrafneusiedl: picturesque exploration of ruins
The historic Markgrafneusiedl ruins are a landmark of the village. It is located at the highest point in the Marchfeld - on the foothills of the Kleiner Wagram. The church of St. Martin from the early 13th century was converted into a fortified castle in the mid-17th century. The Battle of Wagram was decided here in 1809. Today, the ruins are often visited as part of easy hikes or cycle tours.
Also worth seeing in Markgrafneusiedl is the stately parish church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with its Gothic core.
