Nature & Outdoor adventures

Attention adventurers ...

Whether it is an exploratory tour through the Danube-Auen National Park, or fun & games while practising archery, climbing or mini-golf, there is always something happening in Marchfeld and everyone is well catered for here.

A 'green band' between the conurbations of Vienna and Bratislava, the riparian landscape at the Danube, which is one-of-a-kind in Central Europe, has been protected since 1996 by the Danube-Auen National Park and spans an area of around 9600 ha. This area is a retreat for protected animal species including kingfishers, sea eagles, the little ringed plover, mud-minnows, sterlet, beavers and the European pond terrapin. When it comes to botanical treats, there are black poplars, numerous orchid species and genuine wild grape, the original form of all grapevines.

Explore the fascinating riparian landscape

A variety-packed range of offers for visits intended for children, adults, families, school classes and groups enables the National Park to provide personalised experiences of the natural surroundings. It is also well worth exploring this riparian landscape off your own bat. A guidance system throughout for visitors and a path network, as well as hiking maps are useful aids. Observing the rules of conduct, for instance keeping to the designated walkways and ensuring dogs are kept on a lead, are a matter of course for all guests who are nature-aware. Take care in the event of flood: for safety reasons, individual paths may be diverted or blocked!
